Kallarroo Homestead offer a very special, away-from-it-all holiday: a grand house done up in rustic elegance on a 1000 acre mountain grazing property in the unspoilt Kydra Ranges of southeast NSW.
You can be among artwork, antiques, and open fireplaces gazing down on the Kydra River valley, enjoying rural comfort in the great tradition of Australian country life.
Or you can be bush-walking through pasture and old-growth forest seeing native wildlife and birds, canoeing on the river looking for the platypus, finding the hollow-tree cubby house, or playing croquet on the huge front lawn.
Kallarroo is situated near the historic village of Nimmitabel, roughly half way between the ski-fields and fishing spots of the Snowy Mountains, and the pristine beaches of the NSW far south coast. It is two hours' drive from Canberra, 45 minutes from Cooma, and about an hour and a quarter from either Merimbula or Jindabyne.
The Homestead is a very large log and stone house with rooms of immense proportions, overlooking three kilometres of frontage on the Kydra River.
It features three open fireplaces, a spacious loungeroom, an elegant dining room, a big country kitchen, three bedrooms, a study, two bathrooms, and a television room.
Kallarroo Homestead was built with big public rooms for country-style entertaining. The living room features a baby grand piano, Canadian landscape art, rich Persian carpets and Ottomans, and a grand open fireplace.
The dining room includes a massive English Tudor dining table, an open fire, antique sideboards, and a collection of bright naive art from overseas and Aboriginal paintings.
Alternatively, there's the gazebo - a glasshouse where you can enjoy a drink, lunch or dinner almost all year round with the feeling of being right outdoors.
Also available is Kallarroo Cottage, a fully renovated log cabin done up in the style of a fishing or skiing lodge.
